OUR FIRST COMMENT? >> [INDISCERNIBLE]
[INAUDIBLE] >>CAN YOU HEAR ME? >>YES.
>>THANK YOU. MY NAME IS STEPHANIE DEAL. CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL POLICY STATEMENT 8123 RECOGNIZES QUOTE THAT PARENTS, CAREGIVERS AND THE COMMUNITY PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE EDUCATION AND ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS. IMPLEMENTING PROCEDURES STATED IN RELEVANT PART THAT QUOTE SEE CPS WILL ENSURE THE IDEAS INTERESTS, AND CONCERNS OF ITS STAKEHOLDERS ARE CONSIDERED AND VALUED IN DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES THE INPUT AND THE INPUT AND INVOLVEMENT ARE SAW AND ENCOURAGED FROM A BROAD SPECTRUM OF THE DIVERSE COMMUNITY. TO THAT END, THE POLICY REQUIRES PRINCIPLES BUT TELLINGLY, NEITHER BOARD OF EDUCATION QUOTE PROVIDE AN INVITING WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT WHERE PARENT INVOLVEMENT IS RESPECTED AND VALUED. ACROSS A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS, OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, THIS BOARD HAS BEEN HEARING FROM PARENTS EXPRESSING GRAVE CONCERNS WITH THE MANNER IN WHICH THE BOARD IS FULFILLING THIS ROLE TO ENSURE THE CHILDREN CALVERT COUNTY RECEIVE A HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION AND IN A POSITIVE AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. IN SHORT, THAT RECURRING AND GROWING CHORUS OF NEGATIVE FEEDBACK IS AN INDICATOR THAT LARGE PORTIONS OF THE COMMUNITY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS CONSIDERABLE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT IN THE BOARD SERVICE TO THE COUNTY. INDEED, THE LAST, SAT HERE, I INFORMED THE BOARD OF SERIOUS ISSUES REGARDING THE LEGALITY OF ADOPTING PRACTICES THAT OVERTLY FAVOR ONE PROTECTED CLASS OF STUDENTS OVER ANOTHER. AND WARNED THAT FAILURE TO LISTEN TO COMMUNITY CONCERNS BY LITIGATION THEREBY PUTTING FISCAL RESOURCES AT RISK. LITIGATION HAS SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN INITIATED WHEN IT COULD'VE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE BOARD HAD ONLY BEEN WILLING TO MEANINGFULLY LISTEN. THE DEBATE CENTERS LARGELY IN EQUITY POLICY 1015, WHICH REVOLVES AROUND DEDICATION TO QUOTE ELEVATING ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL. FOR ALL.
STRIVING TO EXECUTE THIS MISSION AND EQUITY LINES IS APPLIED AND THAT'S DEFINED IN
THE POLICY AS WELL. >>CONSPICUOUSLY ABSENT FROM POLICY 1015 IS ANY MENTION OF ENSURING EQUITABLE TREATMENT OF PARENT TO THE PUBLIC. INDEED, THE PARENT OR PUBLIC APPEAR
[00:20:01]
NOWHERE IN THE POLICY. AND NOT OMISSION HAS YIELDED SYSTEMIC AND INSTITUTIONALIZED BARRIERS.THE PARENT PARTICIPATION IN THE EDUCATIONAL DECISION-MAKING PROCESS. EXAMPLE. THE CONDUCT OF PUBLIC BOARD MEETINGS AND TO RECURRING REQUESTS TO THE BOARD THAT REMAIN UNADDRESSED IS NUMBER ONE. LEASE REQUIRED THE PRACTICE ON THE LIMITED NUMBER OF SPEAKERS. NUMBER TWO, PLEASE SCHEDULE PUBLIC BOARD MEETINGS AFTER REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS.
SO, WORKING PARENTS CAN ATTEND. AS TO THE FIRST ISSUE, THE PUBLIC IS NOT FORCED TO EFFECTIVELY TAILGATE OUT IN THE PARKING LOT. IN ORDER TO SECURE ONE OF THE 10 SPEAKING SLOTS. AND THAT IS ASSUMING THE SUPERINTENDENT DOESN'T GIVE SLOTS WAY TO SPEAKERS THAT COINCIDENTALLY ARE IDEOLOGICALLY ALIGNED WITH AGENDA. THE MORE IN TELLING AND EQUITY COMES FROM THE SECOND CONCERN. ACCORDING TO THE BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS AND 2020, 71.2 PERCENT OF WOMEN WITH CHILDREN UNDER AGE 18 PARTICIPATED IN THE WORKFORCE.
WHILE THE PERCENTAGE WAS 92.3 FOR MEN. THESE STATS COMPELLINGLY DEMONSTRATE THAT A SUPERMAJORITY OF SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN LIVE IN HOUSES WITH WORKING PARENTS. THIS ISN'T NEWS. AND IT SHOULD BE KNOWN TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS. THE INEQUITABLE ÃTHIS YEAR WE ARE.
DURING THE BUSINESS THEY ARE YET AND OF THE PUBLIC BOARD MEETING. THE INEQUITABLE TREATMENT OF PARENTS THAT MUST WORK DOES NOT SQUARE WITH THE EQUITY POLICY 1015.
ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I AM NOT BE ENOUGH TO HAVE A JOB THAT AFFORDS ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE TIME OFF ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND PROVIDE THE BOARD THE BENEFIT OF SOME CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. MANY ARE NOT SO LUCKY. THE LEAST EQUIPPED PARENTS TO ADJUST THE WORK SCHEDULES ARE THOSE THAT LOWER INCOME LEVELS. THE IS A WELL DOCUMENTED FACT THAT LOWER INCOME LEVELS TEND TO BE CORRELATED TO PROTECTED AND MINORITY GROUPS. WHETHER INTENDED OR NOT, THE EFFECT OF THE BOARD SCHEDULING PRACTICES IS TO MATERIALLY INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF LOWER INCOME MINORITY PARENTS BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN PUBLIC BOARD MEETINGS. I URGE THE BOARD TO STOP CATERING TO THE PRIVILEGED ELITE. AND TO INSTEAD REMOVE THESE NOT-SO-SUBTLE STRUCTURAL BARRIERS, WHICH CURTAIL THE QUANTUM AND DIVERSITY OF PARENT PARTICIPATION AT PUBLIC BOARD MEETINGS. AND ASSESSING THE REPEATED APPEAL TO THE BOARD, TO BE REASONABLY ÃTHIS I WILL CLOSE BY STATING THAT THE IMPORTANT ROLE TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS PLAY IS SINCERELY RESPECTED AND VALUED. IT DOES INDEED TAKE A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD. IT'S NOT EVER FORGET THE VILLAGE AS THE CHIEF AND THE CHIEF IS THE PARENT. NOT THE BOE. NOT THE SUPERINTENDENT OR EVEN THE TEACHERS. THIS CONCLUSION ALIGNS WITH THE BOARD'S PROCEDURES FOR POLICY 8123, WHICH EXPRESSLY RECOGNIZED THAT
THE FAMILY AND NOT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. >>YOUR TIME IS EXPIRED.
>>I REQUEST THE BOARD HOST A PUBLIC TOWN HALL BEFORE THE CALENDAR YEAR.
[INDISCERNIBLE] >>MISSED DEAL, YOU ARE PROVIDED FIVE MINUTES FOR YOUR COMMENTS.
THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] >>OUR NEXT SPEAKER?
>>THE NEXT SPEAKER IS SORRY. MR. HALE. >>THREE MINUTES.
>>GOOD AFTERNOON I'M HOPING THIS CAN BE SOMEWHAT INTERACTIVE. BUT, I AM SERIOUSLY DOUBTING. AS THE BOARD CONSIDERED RENOUNCING AND WITHDRAWING THE CRITICAL RACE
THEORY RESOLUTION WAS PASSED. >>THERE WILL NOT BE ANY INTERACTION.
>>OKAY. MY NEXT QUESTION WOULD BE WOULD THE BOARD CONSIDER HAVING AND CREATING A VENUE WHERE ESTHER COULD BE INTERACTION WHERE THERE ARE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS AND HAVING BIDIRECTIONAL MEETING SO THAT WE CAN HEAR YOUR VIEWS ON CERTAIN SUBJECTS. I THOUGHT NOT. WITH REGARD TO THE CRITICAL RACE THEORY THAT WAS IN THE PAST ONE OF MY BIGGEST CONCERNS WITHIN THIS COUNTIES WITH THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE NOT DENOUNCED IT.
[00:25:02]
PUBLICLY. SINCE I'M NOT GOING TO GET ANY RESPONSE FOR THIS NEXT QUESTION, BECAUSE IT RELATES TO THE RESOLUTION. I AM SOMEWHAT CONFUSED BY ONE OF THE STATEMENTS IN THE RESOLUTION OTHER THAN IT BEING DIVISIVE AND RACIST. SAYS WHEREAS DISCIPLINE PROCESSES TO INCREASE RACIAL DISPARITIES IN DISCIPLINE AND SUSPENSION FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR. AND MARGINALIZED GROUPS SHALL BE ELIMINATED. I'M NOT THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE BOX, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOUR MEANING. MAYBE YOU CAN ADDRESS THAT AND ANOTHER MEETING OR AFTER THE MEETING OR WHOEVER WROTE THAT EXPLAIN WHAT THEY MEANT. WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I THINK THE PARENTS WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I WILL SAVE MOST OF MY OTHER COMMENTS FOR A FUTURE MEETING. BUT, I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU WITH QUOTES. VLADIMIR LENIN, IF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY, I HOPE YOU DO WITH REGARD TO THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION. HE WROTE ", WE MUST BE READY TO EMPLOY TRICKERY, DECEIT, LAWBREAKING, WITHHOLDING AND CONCEALING TRUTH. WE CAN AND MUST WRITE IN A LANGUAGE WHICH SOWS AMONG THE MASSES, HATE, REPULSION, SCORN, TOWARDS THOSE THAT DISAGREE WITH US.". KARL MARX. I QUOTE. THE FIRST BATTLEFIELD IS TO REWRITE HISTORY. TAKE AWAY THE HERITAGE OF THE PEOPLE AND THEY ARE EASILY PERSUADED. UNQUOTE. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, RONALD REAGAN. FREEDOM IS NEVER MORE THAN A GENERATION AWAY FROM EXTENSION.>>MR. HALE, YOUR TIME HAS EXPIRED. [APPLAUSE]
>>NEXT SPEAKER? >> [INDISCERNIBLE]
>>GOOD AFTERNOON. I AM HERE AS A MOM OF THREE STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL PUT ONE IN HIGH SCHOOL, ONE MIDDLE, AND ONE ELEMENTARY. I'M HERE TODAY BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE TOO MANY TIMES OUR STUDENTS AND THE SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS IN THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE BEEN USED AND EXPLOITED AS MEANS TO MANIPULATE THE POLITICAL SCENE. AFTER ATTENDING LAST MONTH'S MEETING, I LEFT SHOCKED BY THE LACK OF STABILITY, THE LACK OF COLLABORATIVE ATTITUDE AND THE LACK AND SPIRIT OF DIVISIVENESS THAT WAS PALPABLE IN THIS BUILDING. AS MOST OF US HERE, I DO IN FACT HAVE STRONG OPINIONS ABOUT MOST OF THE THINGS THAT ARE DISCUSSED.
HOWEVER, I ALSO FEEL AS AN ADULT WHO IS STRIVING FOR A MORE SAFE AND JUST COMMUNITY FOR KIDS TO LIVE IN, THAT I CAN VOICE THESE COMPLAINTS IN A WAY THAT DOES NOT ATTACK THE CHARACTER ÃÃTHE CHARACTER OF THOSE WHO DISAGREE WITH ME. MY MAIN GAUGE IN EDUCATION TEXAS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS AND THAT WAY, WE HAVE FORGOTTEN THE CHILDREN AND HAVE PLACED ON OUR FIGHTING GLOVES READY TO FIGHT EACH OTHER IN THE GUISE OF PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN. AT THAT POINT, WE ARE THE ONES DOING HARM. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT IN ORDER TO PREVENT THIS USING OUR CHILDREN AS PAWNS FOR OUR UNRESOLVED CONFLICTS WITHIN THE AREA, THAT INSTEAD WE DO OUR JOB TO BE EDUCATED ON THE ISSUES NOT ONLY IN THE ONES THAT POLITICALLY FITS US. BUT HOLISTICALLY GATHERING INFORMATION. I RECOMMENDED THAT WE PUT OUR EFFORTS RATHER THAN GEARED TOWARDS FIGHTING EACH OTHER TO THAT OF MANY HANDS. WHERE WE CAN BE SUPPORTING TEACHERS. WE CAN AND TRYING TO CULTIVATE A COMMUNITY OF KINDNESS. TO OUR CHILDREN CAN DRAW UPON WHEN THEY ARE COUNTERING THEIR OWN CONFLICTS.
E HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY AS THE GROWN-UPS IN CALVERT COUNTY TO MODEL TO OUR CHILDREN HOW TO LIVE RESPECTFULLY HONORING THE DIGNITY OF EACH PERSON. AND YES, TO DO SO, EVEN IN TIMES WHERE WE ARE AT ODDS WITH EACH OTHER. I RAN ACROSS TODAY THE PHRASE THAT SAID WE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DISAGREE WELL. THE THERAPIST, IT IS QUITE COMMON FOR ME TO GO OVER GROUND
[00:30:02]
RULES WITH COUPLES AND FAMILIES THAT I'M WORKING WITH. I WONDER IF SOME GROUND RULES WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR US. THAT WE CAN REMEMBER HOW TO TREAT EACH OTHER, EVEN WHEN WE ARE HAVING OUR OWN BIG FEELINGS. ONE GROUND RULE MIGHT BE TO VOICE COMPLAINTS RATHER THAN TO ATTACK CHARACTER. I ALSO RECOMMEND THAT WE BE SOMEWHAT SKEPTICAL WHEN THEY ARE INFLUENCERS AMONG US WHO TALK IN SUCH TERMS AS CONSERVATIVE RACIST OR RADICAL LEFTIST.GROUPING PEOPLE IN THESE BINARIES OFTEN LEADS TO AN OBJECTIFICATION OF THAT PERSON AND DOES NOT ALLOW US TO TRULY LISTEN TO THE PERSON. LET'S JOIN TOGETHER SO THAT WE CAN MAKE THE COMMUNITY THAT WE DREAM OF. [APPLAUSE]
>>THANK YOU. CALVERT COUNTY. I WAS HERE LAST YEAR AND IT LOOKS LIKE NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED. DEFINITELY NOTHING FOR THE BETTER. A STATEMENT FROM THE SUPREME COURT SAID WE WILL NEVER GET BEYOND USING RACE AS A DETERMINING FACTOR AS LONG AS WE CONTINUE USING RACE AS A DETERMINING FACTOR. RACISM AT THIS BOARD BELIEVES EXISTS IS IN FACT A RARE ANOMALY IN THIS TIME. WE CONSTANTLY SEE RACE-BASED HOAXES YET, YOU PERSIST ON USING TERMS LIKE SYSTEMIC RACISM. WHITE PRIVILEGE, OTHER DOG WORDS. IT DIDN'T EXIST LIKE IT DID IN HISTORY. ALL OF THESE TERMS ARE CRITICAL RACE PRINCIPLES. SO, I HAVE TO CHANGE MY SENTENCE. BUT THE WORD IS SAYING IS NOT ACCURATE. ABOUT CRT. THIS BOARD DOES NOT SEEM TO LISTEN. I JUST DON'T GET IT. THE PUBLIC JUST DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE NEED. WHICH IS TO TREAT PEOPLE EQUALLY AND NOT WITH DESPERATE TREATMENT. WITH PEOPLE LIKE AHMED ARE BURIED. THE CASES NOT EVEN BEEN ADJUDICATED YET.
BREONNA TAYLOR, SHE'S DEAD BECAUSE HER BOYFRIEND SHOT AT THE POLICE. YET, IT'S ON A FORM. ABOUT RACISM AND EQUITY. EQUITY THE WAY YOU USE IT REPLACES EQUALITY EQUALITY IS THE LAW. EQUITY IS NOT IN FACT THE WAY WE USE EQUITY IN PRACTICE, YOU ARE PROMOTING INEQUITY AND DISPARAGED TREATMENT IS ILLEGAL. THE TALK IN A MEMO ABOUT ANTIRACIST. THE TERM HAS BEEN BEYOND RECOGNITION. TWO BOOKS AND AN OCTAGON TO THE READING MATERIAL HERE. TWO BOOKS YOU LIST ARE BUYING ECOM X CANDY. A CON ARTIST IS MADE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OFF OF FOOLS. FIRST IS STAMPED FROM BEGINNING FROM ONE AND THEN HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST. BOTH GARBAGE. PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST VILE RACISTS IN THE COUNTRY TODAY.
THE KEMPER COUNTY BROCHURE ALSO PROVIDES LIBRARY MATERIAL IS QUOTE READ WELCOME. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. AND YOU WANT TO QUOTE TEACH CULTURAL IDENTITIES. I WISH YOU WOULD PROMOTE WESTERN CULTURAL IDENTITY. NOW THE READING LIST. QUOTE, CHILDREN'S BOOKS ARE RESOURCE FOR TALKING ABOUT RACE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. QUOTE RAISING RACE CONSCIOUS CHILDREN. FURTHER GOES ON TO EXPLAIN THAT THE GOALS OF THESE CONVERSATIONS ARE TO DISMANTLE A COLORBLIND FRAMEWORK AND FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO WORK TOWARDS RACIAL JUSTICE. THAT'S TERRIBLE. THE WHOLE LIST IS BAD AND WELL, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD PROMOTE IT. ANOTHER BOOK THAT YOU ARE PROMOTING IS CALLED A FOR ACTIVISM. THE COVER HAS A RAISED FIST ON IT.
THE RED SALUTE. READ YOUR HISTORY IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SO BASICALLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS REPUDIATE THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT WITH MATERIAL THAT YOU ARE PROMOTING. IN SUMMARY, THIS IS DAMAGING BOTH THE CHILDREN AND THE SOCIETY.
ASKING FOR CHILDREN OR FOR NEUROTIC ADULTS. [APPLAUSE]
>>MR. MCQUEEN? >>AND JAMES MCQUEEN THE TAXPAYER AND I LIVE IN CALVERT COUNTY. I LIKE TO THANK THE BOARD FOR LISTENING TO ME AND THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT AND MR. CURRY, I THINK YOU NEED TO RETHINK YOUR LIFE. FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO USE YOUR PAPERWORK. SO, I'M WHITE, I'M A MAN HETEROSEXUAL, I'M A PROTESTANT. I WAS NOT EDUCATED
[00:35:06]
IN COLLEGE, BUT I DID GO TO ÃÃ AND BECAME VP OF THE COMPANY. I'M US-BORN AND SPEAK ENGLISH.I'M ABLE-BODIED AND I'M AN ADULT BECAUSE OF MY AGE. THAT MEANS THAT MY BROTHER, WHO'S IN LGBT Q IS LESS THAN ME, YOU'RE TELLING ME BECAUSE MY FAMILY IS LESS THAN ME. YOU'RE TELLING ME MY DAUGHTER, WHO DID NOT GO TO PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL, BUT WENT TO A STATE SCHOOL AND BECAME A PROFESSOR AND TEACHES IN MATHEMATICS IS LESS THAN ME? YOU TELLING ME THAT MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER IS LESS THAN ME BECAUSE SHE IS AN IMMIGRANT? YOU TELLING ME THAT MY GRANDSON IS LESS THAN ME BECAUSE HE IS AUTISTIC. THE YET HE PLAYS IN THE MARCHING BAND OF HIS HIGH SCHOOL. AND THAT ISN'T BECAUSE OF WHAT HE WAS TAUGHT. THAT WAS BECAUSE OF HIS PARENTS.
OUR DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, WE HOLD TRUE SELF EVIDENCE ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUALLY. I GUESS A LOT OF PEOPLE FORGOT ABOUT THAT ONE. PRINCIPLE OF EQUALITY WRITTEN ABOUT IN THE DECORATION AND CODIFIED INTO LAW WITH THE 14TH AND 15TH AMENDMENTS. THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 64. THE VOTING RIGHTS OF 65 IS REJECTED BY CRT SERIOUS. REVEREND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.'S LEGACY ÃÃI HAVE A DREAM THAT MY FOUR CHILDREN WILL ONE DAY LIVE IN A NATION WHERE THEY WILL NOT BE JUDGED BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. BUT BY THEIR CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER. ALMOST ALL AMERICANS SUPPORT REVEREND KING'S DREAM AND THE UNITED STATES HAS MADE GREAT PROGRESS TO THIS GOAL. CRT TURNS HIS DREAM INTO DREAM ON ITS HEAD.
THE MOST PROMINENT PROPONENT OF CRT IS X KENNEDY. HE WAS HIRED BY SCHOOL SYSTEMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO PROSELYTIZE A HATEFUL IDEOLOGY. ONLY REMEDY TO RACIST DISCRIMINATION IS ANTIRACIST DISCRIMINATION. THE ONLY REMEDY TO PAST DISCRIMINATION IS PRESENT DISCRIMINATION. AND THE ONLY REMEDY TO PRESENT DISCRIMINATION FUTURE. HOW TO BE AN ANTIRACIST. THAT'S WHO YOU ARE FOLLOWING. CAPITALISM IS ESSENTIALLY RACIST. RACISM IS ESSENTIALLY CAPITALIST AND THEY AREBIRTHED AND GATHERED TOGETHER IN THE SAME CAUSES.
AND THEY SHALL BE ONE DAY DEAD ON NATURAL CAUSES. [APPLAUSE]
>>HELLO. MY NAME IS MELISSA KOONTZ. I AM A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER FOR CALVERT COUNTY. I'M HERE TONIGHT BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE FELT THAT COULD STAND THIS WEEK. WE ARE TIRED AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SCARED IN THE PAST TO STAND UP. WE TRULY BELIEVE THAT WE DESERVE, BUT WE HAVE COME TO A POINT WHERE WE CANNOT ÃÃWE ARE SCARED NOT TO TAKE A STAND NOW. IT'S TO THE POINT TO WHERE WE ARE SINKING HERE. WE LOVE OUR CHILDREN. AND SUPPORT OUR PARENTS. WE BUILD BONDS WITH THESE KIDS AND WITH THESE PARENTS. THE LAST THING WE WANT TO DO IS STEP BACK AND TRY TO JUST MAKE AWARENESS AND LET YOU ALL KNOW THAT WE BUS DRIVERS DEFTNESS WE DESERVE MORE. WE DESERVE TO BE ABLE TO SURVIVE JUST LIKE SOMEBODY ELSE. WE SPOKE WITH FEW PEOPLE ON THE BOARD THIS WEEK AND WE WERE ALL TOLD THE SUCCESSFUL PART-TIME JOB. THIS IS NOT JUST A PART-TIME JOB. THIS IS HOW WE FEED OUR FAMILIES. THIS IS HOW WE FOOD OVER OUR HEADS. AND A LOT OF US ARE WORKING SUNUP TO SUNDOWN. YES, WE STITCHED SOME OF US MIGHT HAVE A BREAK, BUT A LOT OF US ARE WORKING 10 TO 12 HOURS A DAY.
[00:40:02]
WAS TRYING TO TAKE TRIPS AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WE CAN DO TO TRY TO MAKE MORE MONEY. ALL WE ASK IS THAT YOU ALL STOP UNDERVALUING US. WE ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT TO THE SYSTEM AS EVERYBODY ELSE. THEY'RE THE FIRST PLACES WE SEE IN THE MORNING THE LAST ONES THAT THEY SEE IN THE EVENING. AND WE LOVE OUR KIDDOS. WE DO. WE LOVE OUR PARENTS. BUT A LOT OF US ARE FORCED TO HAVE TO SEEK OTHER JOBS FOR TWO INTO JOBS JUST BECAUSE WE LOVE WHAT WE DO. AND IT'S FAIR THAT WE HAVE TO GIVE UP ON THAT. SO, WE ARE ASKING AND HAVE THIS MEETING WITH DOCTOR CURRY. OUR CONTRACTORS WE ASK YOU ALL TO PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUS.ECAUSE WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET. WE WILL FIGHT UNTIL WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE. AND WE JUST REALLY HOPE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE TO COME BACK OFF OF OUR BUSES TO TRY TO MAKE A STAND.
AND JUST SO THAT YOU KNOW THE PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITIES SUPPORTED US 100 PERCENT.
BEHIND US ALL THE WAY. SUPPORT CLOUSEAU OUT THERE THIS WEEK WAS JUST MY TWO. WE APPRECIATE IT. JUST KNOW THAT WE HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY AND OUR PARENTS. WE JUST REALLY
HOPE THE WILL REALLY TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. WE HAVE TO SAY. >>YOUR TIME IS EXPIRED.
>>THAT'S ALL WE ASK IS JUST AS PLEASE TRY TO HELP GET US TO WHERE WE NEED TO BE ON THESE
BUSES. THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] >>THANK YOU MISS MAXEY.
[5.01 Hayden Kelly]
PARAGRAPH WE WILL NEXT MOVE TO THE STUDENT MEMBER BOARD REPORT. MR. KELLY?>>ALL RIGHT, HELLO EVERYBODY. MY NAME IS HAYDEN KELLY. I'M NOT A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR 2020 JANUARY 20, 2022. I'M GOING TO START OFF BY GOING THROUGH THE ADVISORY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING. THAT WE HAD LAST WEEK. I USUALLY LIKE TO KEEP MY REPORTS PRETTY POSITIVE, BUT I DO HAVE TO SAY SOME NEGATIVES TODAY. AND ON THIS CAN GET THEM RIGHT OUT OF THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING. FIRST OF ALL, THE BLESSING. YOU GUYS HAVE ALREADY HEARD ABOUT IT. QUITE A BIT. I KNOW I WAS LEFT AT MY BUS STOP THIS MONDAY. WAS NOT VERY FUN I HAVE TO SAY. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO REALLY REITERATE THINGS THAT ARE ALREADY SET. WE UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION. THE STUDENTS OF CALIBER UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION. THAT'S ALL AND CAN SAY ABOUT IT. NEXT. IT SEEMS AT LEAST AS TOLD BY THE ADVISORY COUNCIL THAT STUDENTS SEEM TO BE WEARING MASKS PLUS CONSISTENTLY AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. IN COMPARISON TO REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. OR INSTANCE SAYING AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS. FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THEY WILL BE WALKING IN THE HALLWAYS WITHOUT THE MASK. I FEEL LIKE THAT'S KIND OF JUST A HABIT THAT WE NEED TO BREAK. THAT IS NOT A HUGE DEAL. IT WILL IMPROVE JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE STUDENTS AROUND THE SCHOOL YEAR. NOW TO THE POSITIVES.
STUDENTS ARE VERY HAPPY TO BE BACK IN THE CLUBS AND SPORTS. AT THE ADVISORY SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING, THEY WERE NOT ACTIVE SPORTS. CLUBS GOING AT THAT TIME. BUT OVERALL, THAT SEEMS TO BE ONE OF THE FAVORITE THINGS OF THE STUDENTS OF CALIBER. BEING BACK IN THE CLUBS AND SPORTS. THESE IN PERSON EVENTS THAT ARE COMING UP ARE REALLY MOTIVATING THE STUDENTS TO DO BETTER AND STAY IN SCHOOL AND FOLLOW THEM RULES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE THIS PAST YEAR. I ALSO FEEL LIKE IT'S REALLY RAISING THE MORALE OF THE STUDENT BODY. JUST BEING ABLE TO GET BACK TO THESE THINGS LIKE THE CLUBS AND SPORTS. I KNOW I THINK CONVERSES NORTHERN IS THIS FRIDAY AND I CAN SEE THE ENERGY AT OUR SCHOOL. IN PERSON EVENTS, THE COVERED ASSOCIATION AND STUDENT COUNCILS HAS OUR FIRST IN PERSON GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND OVER A YEAR THIS THURSDAY. I'M PERSONALLY EXTREMELY EXCITED. IT'S GONNA BE GREAT AND ALL THE PEOPLE IN CASCO PUT INTO THIS ASSEMBLY AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE. I KNOW IT'S GONNA BE GOOD TIME AND IF ANY OF YOU GUYS ARE INTERESTED IN COMING, YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME. WAS THAT? THIS THURSDAY. CALVERT HIGH SCHOOL ÃÃWHAT'S THE TIME? I THINK IT STARTS AT 10. I COULD BE WRONG. I GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT. ALSO, MY LAST THING IS
[00:45:05]
THE FORM AT THE NEXT MEETING. AT THE MOMENT, WAITING ON A FEW RESPONSES. I DON'T HAVE 10 STUDENTS YET, BUT IT WILL BE DONE WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I'M JUST WAITING ON A FEW MORE RESPONSIVE. THE TOPICS BECAUSE I WANT TO BUT, I MEAN YOU GUYS CAN DEFINITELY ASSUME WHAT THE TOPICS ARE GOING TO BE JUDGED BY CURRENT EVENTS. AND I'M SURE YOU GUYS ARE ALL GOING TO DO A FANTASTIC JOB. WE ARE DEFTNESS AND LIST MEMBERS I HAVE AT THIS MOMENT ARE VERY[6.01 Dr. Daniel D. Curry]
EXCITED. THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR THE DAY. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.>>THANK YOU MR. KELLY PER DOCTOR CURRY? YOUR SUPERINTENDENT REPORT?

BE PRINCIPLE UPON POINT MIDDLE. >>A MOTION TO APPROVE.
>>SECOND. >>WITH EMOTION AND A SECOND. ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE.
DOESN'T PAPER? XI. >>I. >>ANY POST?
>>THANK YOU. I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYBODY THAT THIS IS PRINCIPAL RECOGNITION MONTH.
THE JOB OF PRINCIPAL IS A VERY UNIQUE AND THAT YOUR WELL KNOWN TO THE LITTLE WORLD OF STUDENTS WHO THE AGE GROUP THAT GOES TO YOUR FACILITY, THAT'S BEEN A YEAR OF REGULAR DISRUPTIONS.
AND CHANGES IN PLANS AND CHANGES IN STAFF. IN CHANGES IN GUIDANCE. FROM ANOTHER ALL SORTS OF AGENCIES. EVERY CARD TO KEEP THINGS GOING AT THEIR SCHOOLS AND MIDST QUARANTINES AND SHORTAGES OF SUBSTANCE SUBSTITUTES IN BUS CHANGES. E JUST CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE CHALLENGES OF BEING A PRINCIPAL AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS AND HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATED OUR INTERVALS. I LIKE TO POINT OUT EVERYBODY THAT THE THEATER PROGRAMS GOING STRONG. IT'S BACK AND OUR MASKING RULES DO NOT APPLY WHEN YOU ARE ON STAGE. PERFORMING. SO, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DO SOME PERFORMANCES ON STAGE WITHOUT MASKS. THERE STILL MASKING BACKSTAGE MASKING FOR THE AUDIENCE. BUT, WE HAVE THIS WEEKEND AT NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL. IT STARTS TONIGHT AT 7 O'CLOCK AND GOES THROUGH 3 PM SHOW ON SUNDAY.
AT THE END OF OCTOBER, OCTOBER 28, 29TH AND 30TH. SLEEPY HOLLOW AT CALVERT HIGH.
NOVEMBER 11, 12, 13TH IS TREASURE ISLAND AT PATUXENT HIGH. AND NOVEMBER 13 AND 14TH THE HONEY TOWN HIGH IS A FUNDRAISER. A MUSICAL FUNDRAISING CONCERT CALLED ALTOGETHER NOW AT HUNTING TOWN HIGH. AND IT ALSO HUNTING TOWN HIGH IN EARLY DECEMBER AND SECOND, THIRD, AND FOURTH, THEY WILL BE DOING LITTLE WOMEN. I WANT TO SAY THANKS TO THE PARENTS WHO DROVE MONDAY AND TUESDAY. THANKS TO THOSE DRIVERS WHO DROVE AS WELL.
THANKS TO THOSE DRIVERS WHO SPOKE WITH MR. NAVARRO AND I. AND WHEN THEY CAME OUT TO TALK WITH YOU OUT AT THE DEMONSTRATION. IT'S GOOD THAT EVERYONE TREATED EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT AS WAS SUGGESTED EARLIER TODAY. AND WHEN YOU WERE TRYING TO HEAR EVERYBODY'S POINT OF VIEW. THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR WHERE OUR ENROLLMENT REALLY COUNTS AND I DO FEEL I PUT A DAMPER ON THINGS. BUT I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT OUR ENROLLMENT IS BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. BUT STILL, MUCH LOWER THAN TWO YEARS AGO. WHICH IS WHAT WE REFUNDED ON. OUR FUNDING COMES FROM THE STATE AND THE COUNTY BASED UPON OUR ENROLLMENT AND RIGHT NOW, WE'RE JUST A LITTLE OVER 15,000 KIDS, WHERE OUR ENROLLMENT THAT FUNDED US TWO YEARS AGO WAS 15,600. THAT WILL HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON OUR BUDGET FOR 2000 2022 AND 23 AS WE ARE, AND WHAT OUR ESTIMATES MIGHT BE. LAST YEAR, THEY DID NOT HOLD THIS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE LOSS OF ENROLLMENT. E GOT FUNDED FOR 19 NUMBERS. BUT, WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS YEAR. SO, MAKE SURE EVERYBODY'S MINDFUL. WE ARE ALREADY STARTING TO WORK
[00:50:03]
THROUGH THE BUDGET PROCESS FOR THE 22 AND 23 SCHOOL YEAR. THAT'S IT.>>THANK YOU DOCTOR CURRY. NEXT WE WILL MOVE INTO THE ACTION ITEMS. ASK MADAM CHAIR, I

>>QUESTIONS ON ONE OF THEM. I AM OKAY THE REST OF THEM. THAT WOULD BE THE VERY FIRST ONE
LISTED. IT'S AS ONE. >>IS THERE SOMEONE THAT CAN SPEAK TO THAT ONE, DOCTOR

>>OKAY. ALL RIGHT, WITH EMOTION IN THE SECOND. THE MOTION IS TO MOVE AND TABLE ITEM 2 AND THREE, WHICH IS THE GENERAL FUND REPORT AND IN ITEM 3, THE

BEING IN POSITION FOR STUFF TO HOLD OFF ON THAT YOU KNOW? >>IT WOULD HELP US TO BUILD AND MOVE FORWARD WITH SOME OF THAT WOULD OR COULD ÃÃIF YOU HAVE A QUESTION ONE BUDGET ADJUSTMENT, YOU COULD ENTERTAIN 4/5. AND THAT COULD BE EMOTION WHEN YOU GET TO THAT ONE.
>>RIGHT, WHY DON'T WE PERHAPS KEEP THE MOTIONS PURELY FOR ITEM NUMBER THREE. SORRY, TO GENERAL FUNDS. AND THEN I WILL MAKE A MOTION FOR THE SECOND THE BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS.
>>DO YOU FAVOR AMENDING THE EMOTION? >>I MAKE A MOTION TO DELAY THE TEST TEST I LOST MY AGENDA. TO DELAY THE GENERAL FUND REPORT UNTIL THE NEXT BOARD MEETING.

CATEGORY TRANSFER. >>YES, COULD YOU BE SPECIFIC? >>10421, THE SUMMARY OF ADJUSTMENTS 11421. THESE ARE ALL THE SAME. CATEGORY BUDGET. ADJUSTMENTS. THOSE FOUR. BUT
THE INCREASE IN THE OPERATING BUDGET. >>OKAY. SO, YOUR MOTION IS TO
LABEL FOR ITEMS? NUMBER FIVE. >>I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO ACCEPT GO FORWARD WITH THE BUDGET ADJUSTMENTS. BUT TO DELAY THE FIRST ONE THE LIST, WHICH IS THE ADJUSTMENT TO INCREASE .20 OPERATING BUDGET. WE WOULD BE TAKING THAT FIRST ONE FOR THE APPROVAL TODAY.
>>ALL RIGHT. YOU HAVE A SECOND? >>SECOND. ALL RIGHT, SO MOTION ON THE TABLE TO DIFFER. LAST FOUR TO FOR THE FIRST ITEM UNDER OUR BUDGET ADJUSTMENT DISCUSSION. WHICH WOULD BE ADJUSTMENT TO INCREASE IN FISCAL YEAR 2022 OPERATING

[7.05 ESPOY and ToY New Selection Process]
NEXT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO THE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR.EACHER OF THE YEAR. SELECTION PROCESS AND REVISIONS.
>>AS A MATTER OF INTRODUCTION, GO AHEAD AND HAVE A SEAT LADIES. NO. UP FRONT.
[LAUGHTER] I JUST WANT TO INTRODUCE THE TOPIC. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION OF THE YEARS. SOMETIMES SOME ADVISORY GROUPS THAT THERE ARE INCONSISTENCIES AMONG SCHOOLS ON HOW THEY GO ABOUT SELECTING TEACHERS OF THE YEAR. AND THAT SOMETIMES IT APPEARS THAT WE ARE USING TEACHER OF THE YEAR SELECTION PROCESSES TO IDENTIFY OUR SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR. DOESN'T SEEM QUITE FAIR. SO, I ASK TRACY SHEPLEY OR THOMAS TO PUT TOGETHER A GROUP TO WORK ON THAT AND THEY'RE GONNA BE MAKING SOME GROUPS AND CHANGES.
SHE CAN SHARE THAT WITH YOU TODAY. [INDISCERNIBLE]
>>GOOD AFTERNOON AGAIN. [INDISCERNIBLE]
[01:00:11]
[INAUDIBLE] >>SELECTION COMMITTEE TOOK A CRITICAL LOOK ON HOW THE PROCESS WAS DONE IN EACH BUILDING ÃÃ [INAUDIBLE]
>>WITH THE TEACHER AND THE 49 TEACHER OF THE YEAR. AN EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL BUREAU CANDIDATES TO INCLUDE INTERVIEWING, WRITING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING.
>>CAN YOU GET THE SLIDES UP HE DIDN'T HAVE A REMOTE. >>SLIDE FOUR.
>>THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR CRITERIA IS BASED ON STATE AND NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA. SO, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERY SEE CPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES CRITERIA IS ALIGNED. SO, WE WANT TO FOCUS ON THE FULL-TIME TEACHERS. AND GRADES PRE-K THROUGH GRADES 12 SO, WE'RE LOOKING AT CLASSROOM RESOURCE AND MEDIA. ALSO, THESE INDIVIDUALS WILL HAVE A MINIMUM OF SIX YEARS IN THE CLASSROOM. TEACHING WHERE HE OR SHE IS NOMINATED HE ALSO WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT STOOD OUT CANDIDATE WILL BE NOMINATED ON CONSECUTIVE YEARS. HOWEVER, THEY WERE THE SEE CPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR THEY WILL
NOT BE ABLE TO BE NOMINATED. >>IT WAS DECIDED BY THE GROUP INTENTIONALLY THAT WE WOULD REVIEW THE ESP PROCESS AFTER THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROCESS BECAUSE WE THOUGHT A LOT OF THE STANDARDS AND CRITERIA THAT WE PUT INTO PLACE WOULD DRIVE THE CONVERSATION FOR WHAT WE WANTED FOR THE ESP'S. WE WANTED TO ENSURE THAT THE SAME STANDARDS OF CRITERIA INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND EVALUATION WERE IN PLACE FOR BOTH CATEGORIES. BY DOING THIS, IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE ESP SIDE OF IT NEEDED A LITTLE BIT OF WORK. WE LOOKED AT THE SELECTION CRITERIA THROUGH EQUITY LINES TO ENSURE THAT THIS DISTINCTION WAS ATTAINABLE BY ALL ESP'S. WE THEN REDESIGNED THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO BE LESS LIMITING AND ALLOW THE CANDIDATES TO SHOW WHO THEY ARE AS AN INDIVIDUAL, TEAMMATE, AND A MEMBER OF THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY. AND THE RUBRIC WAS ALSO UPDATED. SO, THE CRITERIA FOR THE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL ÃÃIT CAN BE ANY PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL WITH CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THEY ARE LEADERS THAT GUIDE EMPLOYEES OF ALL BACKGROUNDS
[01:05:01]
AND ABILITIES TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE. THEY COLLABORATE WITH COLLEAGUES, STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO CREATE A CULTURE OF RESPECT AND SUCCESS. THEY ARE ATTENDING PROFESSIONALS WHO EARN THE RESPECT OF SUPERVISOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS AND COLLEAGUES. THEY DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION IN THE ENVIRONMENT. EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL THE YEAR AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL CAN BE NOMINATED IN CONSECUTIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS. HOWEVER, IF THEY WERE NAMED TO SEE CPS PROFESSIONAL THEY ARE, THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE NOMINATED AGAIN. NOW, THE CHANGES TO THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR THE ESP ON THE LEFT IS INDICATED THAT'S WHAT WE HAD BEFORE. AND ON THE RIGHT IS WHERE WE MOVED. THE FIRST TWO QUESTIONS FROM BEFORE AFFORDED ONLY LIMITED RESPONSES, BUT REPRESENTED 40 PERCENT OF THE CANDIDATES TOTAL SCORE. WE COMBINED THOSE TWO AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN THE FOURTH QUESTION ON THE 22 SET OF QUESTIONS. AND THEREFORE, IT'S NOT WEIGHTED AS HEAVILY IN THE OVERALL SCORE. WE THEN LOOKED AT THE REMAINING THREE AND WE REWROTE THEM. USING THE BETTER ALIGNED WITH THE WORDING AND LANGUAGE USEDFOR THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE QUESTIONS. >>I'M GONNA JUMP IN JUST SO YOU KNOW, IF THERE TEACHER RELATED QUESTIONS, WE LOOK AT THEM AS WELL.
LL THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS THAT THEY HAVE ARE ALIGNED TO THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE AT THE
STATE LEVEL. >>AND THEN FINALLY, WE REVIEWED THE RUBRIC USED TO SCORE EACH CANDIDATE. EDUCATION AND HONORS AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS WERE REMOVED FROM THIS CATEGORY. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT JUST AS THEY WERE IN EQUITABLE CATEGORIES. NOT ALL ESP'S HAVE THE SAME ACCESS TO EDUCATION. IN THE ESP WORLD, WE HAVE SOME GED'S AND SOME WITH DOCTORATES.
WHILE WE ARE NOT EVALUATING Ã JUST EVALUATING THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION, WE DID NOT THINK THAT IN THIS SITUATION IT SHOULD HOLD A CARD AND WHO REPRESENTED CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AS AN ESP OF THE YEAR. THE SAME THING WITH THE HONORS AWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS.
OPPORTUNITY FOR THESE ARE NOT THE SAME ACROSS THE BOARD. IN THEIR PLACE, WE ADDED THE CATEGORY FOR REFERENCES. SO THAT OTHERS AND PEERS AND SUPERVISORS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. CAN ILLUSTRATE WHY THESE CANDIDATES DESERVE TO BE NAMED ESP OF THE YEAR.
. >>WE MADE A FEW CHANGES TO THE PROCESS. WE PUSHED UP THE DATES. NORMALLY, WE WOULD GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND IN THE SPRING, THAT DID NOT REALLY AFFORD OUR CANDIDATES ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE AND BE READY FOR ÃÃIF THEY WERE AWARDED TO THE OPPORTUNITY OF REPRESENTATIVE STATE. SO, WE PUSHED IT OUT. SO NOW, WE'RE Ã ÃIF THIS PROCESS IS APPROVED. WE WOULD LIKE TO START IN NOVEMBER. THE FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER. AND SO, THE COORDINATOR WILL PROVIDE EACH SCHOOL WITH A LIST OF TEACHERS.
THOSE THAT WERE ELIGIBLE AND MEETING THE CRITERIA AS STATED. THE PREVIOUS SLIDE IN EACH BUILDING, WHO MEETS THE CRITERIA TO REPRESENT THE SCHOOLS FOR TEACHER OF THE YEAR. AND THEN, TAKE A COUPLE WEEKS TO GET THAT INFORMATION OUT. WE GO THROUGH PROCESS.
THE SCHOOL WOULD SELECT CERTAIN NUMBER OF STUDENTS. WE WOULD GET IT OUT AND SO, WE WOULD THEN BASED ON THE INFORMATION THAT HAS BEEN PROVIDED AND COLLECTED, THE COLLECT THE TOP FIVE CANDIDATES. SO, BASED ON THE STAFF RESPONSES, THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION WILL THEN TALLY THE TOP FIVE CANDIDATES. IN BOTH CATEGORIES FOR OUR SUPPORT AND FOR OUR TEACHERS.
N THE TOP FIVE, WOULD THEN BE DISTRIBUTED TO THE STAFF FOR A FINAL VOTE. AND SO, THIS PROCESS, WE ARE NOW ASKING OUR STAFF TO NOW GIVE REASON AND RECOMMENDATION OF WHY THESE INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE AND REPRESENT THE SCHOOL. AND SO ALSO, THAT INFORMATION WOULD THEN BE USED. IF THOSE INDIVIDUALS MOVE FORWARD, THAT INFORMATION WOULD BE USED FOR CONSIDERATION" AS WELL AS FOR PRESS. THEN, ALSO, WE'RE LOOKING FOR CONSISTENCY AND ALTHOUGH SCHOOLS. SO, EACH SCHOOL WOULD BE USED THE SAME PROCESS. SO, HOWEVER WE PUT IT. IT'LL BE USED AS ACROSS ALL SCHOOLS THE SAME. SO, THE PROCESS, WITH DIFFERENT SCHOOL AND SO, THE PURPOSE OF THIS IS TO REALLY SOLIDIFY THE CONSENSUS ACROSS THE DISTRICT
AND THAT ALL SCHOOLS ARE REPRESENTED THE SAME. >>AND SO, DISTRICT LEVEL, WE
[01:10:06]
HAVE MADE SOME CHANGES AS WELL. WHEN WE GO TO JANUARY FROM OUR BREAK, WE WILL MOVE FROM ALL 49 TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS OF THE YEAR.THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE BECAUSE USUALLY WE DID NOT KNOW THAT PERSON SOMETIMES IN MARCH OR AROUND MARCH. SO, WE WILL KNOW IN JANUARY. AND WE'RE GOING TO START THE PROCESS. WE ALWAYS HAD AN ORIENTATION WORK. E'RE GOING TO REALLY FOCUS ON THEIR ORIENTATION ON MAKING SURE THAT THE ORIENTATION INCLUDES INFORMATION ON THE PROCESS FOR BOTH CATEGORIES.
GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR COMPLETING THE NEXT STEPS AND TECHNOLOGY TRAINING FOR THE INTERVIEWS. ON IT WILL ALSO INCLUDE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE MARYLAND TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROCESS. I WANT TO NOTE THAT WHEN WE SAY TECHNOLOGY TRAINING NECESSARY, IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, WE HAVE BEEN USING SPARK HIGHER AS A MEANS TEACHER. EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT OF THE YEAR. TO CONDUCT THEIR INTERVIEWS. WE'RE LOOKING AT OFFERING MULTIPLE WAYS FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THAT SAME PROCESS. AND REALLY HELPING THEM THROUGH UTILIZING THE TECHNOLOGY BECAUSE THAT SEEMS TO BE A BARRIER ON BOTH ENDS WITH TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT. EVERYTHING ELSE PRIVILEGED STAYS THE SAME. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT MARCH WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR BANQUET AND AND IT WILL BE AT THE HOLIDAY AND DOWN IN SOLOMON'S THIS YEAR. WITH THAT BEING SAID, WE ARE DECIDING THAT IT'S SO WONDERFUL AND THE PANDEMIC, IS GOING TO THE SCHOOLS AND SUPPRESSING OUR WINNERS HAS BEEN SUCH A BIG HIT IN EVERYONE REALLY HAD GREAT RESPONSE TO THAT. SO, WE'RE GONNA KEEP THAT PROCESS. SO, GOING INTO THE BANQUET THAT EVENING, WE WILL KNOW WHO THE WINNERS ARE AND IT WILL BE A VERY CELEBRAORY EVENT. SO ÃÃ BECAUSE IT'S IN MARCH, WHEN WILL HAVE EXTENDED TIME TO BE ABLE TO PREPARE FOR THE
MARYLAND STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR. >>GO AHEAD.
>>THE OTHER THING THAT I WANTED TO MENTION WAS ANOTHER THING THAT THE COMMITTEE DECIDED WAS WE HAVE ALWAYS REFERRED TO THIS AS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR EVENT IS REALLY LONG TITLE. E DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE CALLED THE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR EVENT, WITH TWO CATEGORIES SO, IT IS NOT A SEPARATION OF THE
JOB SPECIFICATIONS. THANK YOU. >>THAT'S OKAY.
>>SHE TURNED THE MIC OFF ON ME. THE SPECIAL WAY THAT WE HONOR OUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL BEERS TRULY REMARKABLE. WITH THE FANTASTIC COMMUNITY AND BUSINESS PARTNER THAT SUPPORT US AND STANDING OUT IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.
ALL OF THE COUNTIES ALWAYS SAY HOW CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL DOES AN AMAZING JOB WITH TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT IN HONORING THEM THROUGHOUT. NOT JUST THE EVENT, BUT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR. SO, WE OWE MANY THANKS THIS PAST YEAR WE HAD NUMEROUS NEW SPONSORS AND CONTINUOUS SPONSORS LIKE THE COMMUNITY BANK OF THE CHESAPEAKE AND EDUCATIONAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION AND CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. ALSO KNOWN AS EXCELLENT. I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DID NOT TAKE THE TIME TO SPECIFICALLY THINK BAYSIDE TOYOTA GROUP JEFF AND MARK WANAMAKER FOR OUR 10+ YEAR PARTNERSHIP. EVERY YEAR, OUR TWO WINNERS GET TO DRIVE AROUND AND ARE EXTREMELY LUCKY TO DRIVE AROUND IN CARS THAT ARE SPONSORED BY BAYSIDE. SO, WE ARE VERY THANKFUL FOR THAT. WE ARE THANKFUL FOR ALL OF THEIR SUPPORT. AND NOW, WE ARE OPEN TO ANY QUESTIONS.
>>WELL, FIRST OF ALL, I ADORE OUR RECOGNITIONS. AND HOW MUCH WE DO RECOGNIZE THESE PEOPLE.
AND IF THE ENTIRE NIGHT WAS JUST FILLED WITH PEOPLE. THE EVERYONE THAT QUALIFIES IN OUR SYSTEM IS WONDERFUL. I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS. HAS IT ALWAYS BEEN A MINIMUM OF SIX YEARS OF
CLASSROOM TEACHING ÃÃIS THAT THE STATE GUIDELINES? >>YES, THAT'S IN LINE WITH THE
STATE CRITERIA. >>ALL RIGHT, AND HAS IT ALWAYS BEEN PART-TIME AND FULL-TIME
FOR THE ESP? NO. IT HAS NOT. >>THAT WAS A CHANGE. >>THAT IS A CHANGE?
>>THAT IS A CHANGE. IT USED TO BE A PART TIME EMPLOYEES WERE NOT ELIGIBLE AND ELIMINATED ALMOST AN ENTIRE JOB CLASSIFICATION. EOPLE WHO ARE ELIGIBLE. SO, THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE WAS IN THE GUIDELINES.
>>I FULLY AGREE WITH THAT. I THINK THAT YOU REALLY HAVE STEPPED UP WITH THE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS I THINK THERE. THEY'RE GOING TO BRING OUT A LOT BETTER INFORMATION I THINK FOR YOU. AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE REMOVING OF THE EDUCATION AND HONORS ALSO. AND
[01:15:02]
JUST LOOKING AT WHAT EVERYBODY HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS PERSON AND THE IMPACT THAT THEY HAVE HAD. AND THE LAST THING I HAVE TO SAY IS I PULLED UP THE CHESAPEAKE BOUNTY A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. AND IT WAS PACKED. I PULLED INTO THIS PARKING SPOT AND NEXT TO ME WAS THE ESP TEAK PERSON OF THE YEAR PERSON CAR. AND IT JUST GIVES YOU A FLUTTER. YOU KNOW? AND I HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO MR. JOHNSON AND IT'S A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. YOU KNOW, AS I SAID, YOUR DEFECTIVE ROLE MODEL NOW. EVERYWHERE THEY GO THEY WILL GET QUESTIONED AND TALK TO. AND SO, IT'S A WONDERFUL THING BAYSIDE HAS DONE. IT REALLY DOES GIVE PEOPLE ACHANCE TO HAVE THAT CONVERSATION, YOU KNOW? >>THANK YOU.
>>YOU HAVE ONE OF MY QUESTIONS, THINKING ABOUT THE SIX YEARS. OUR FUTURE OR STATE-MANDATED OR NOT. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT WE COULD SEE THE STATE LEVEL QUESTIONS FOR THE TEACHER OF
THE YEAR? >>ABSOLUTELY. >>PLEASE.
>>YES. >>AND æ >>JUST SO YOU KNOW, THE SIX YEARS WHEN THEY ARE NOMINATED, IT'S KIND OF A LAG YEAR. HAS TO BE BY JUNE.
EOPLE THAT WERE NOMINATED IN JUNE 2022, THEY HAVE TO REACH THAT SIX YEAR MARK.
>>OKAY. IN THE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PERSON DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE ANY CRITERIA TO HAVE
WORKED FOR THE SYSTEM FOR JUST A YEAR? AND BE NOMINATED? >>YES. AND HOW IS THE ESSENTIAL OFFICE PANEL IDENTIFYING FOR BOTH CATEGORIES? AND BY THE WAY, I LIKE THE NEW NAME. EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR. DEFINITELY I LIKE THAT BETTER.
>>I CAN SPEAK TO HOW THE ESP'S ARE HANDLED AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE LEVEL. EACH DEPARTMENT NOMINATES AN INDIVIDUAL TO REPRESENT THEIR DEPARTMENT FOR THE YEAR. AND THEN COLLECTIVELY, I DON'T SELECTED, DOCTOR CURRY COULD PROBABLY SAY. THEN THERE'S ONE PERSON
THAT IS SELECTED FOR THE CENTRAL OFFICE. >>THERE IS A VOTE AMONGST THE
ADMINISTRATORS. >>THAT PERSON GOES TO THE CABINET.
>>IT APPEARS REPRESENTATIVE AND THAT'S GOING ON THAT PANEL. NO. SAY THAT AGAIN?
>>ARE THE PEERS REPRESENTED ON THE PANEL? ARE THEY JUST ADMINISTRATORS?
>>IT'S JUST A SELECTION OF THE CENTRAL OFFICE REPRESENTED IS THAT WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT?
>>SO NO, YOU ASKED ABOUT THE MISSING. FOR THE SELECTION PANEL FOR THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR, WE CHOOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE AT CENTRAL OFFICE BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO CHOOSE PRINCIPLES BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE POTENTIALLY HAVE A BIASED OPINION ABOUT WHO SHOULD WIN.
SO, WE CHOOSE PEOPLE FROM Ã THAT SHE CHANGES FROM YEAR TO YEAR.
>>IS FIRST FOR THE CENTRAL OFFICE, DEPARTMENT PEERS ARE SOLICITED FOR THEIR INPUT ON WHO SHOULD REPRESENT INDIVIDUAL DEPARTMENT. BUT, I DON'T BELIEVE BEYOND THAT. THERE
WOULD BE APPEAR REPRESENTATIVE IN THAT. >>WHO'S ON THE ÃÃIS IT A SEPARATE GROUP THAT MAKES THE FINAL SELECTION FOR SUPPORT PERSON AT THE END?
>>WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT PANELS. >>TWO DIFFERENT PANELS.
>>FOR EXAMPLE, DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES ON TEACHER, BUT THEY WILL NOT PALLEN EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT THIS YEAR I BELIEVE IS A TEACHER OF THE YEAR. WE MIX THEM UP SO THAT
THEY ARE NOT UNDER PEOPLE'S OVERSEE THE PANEL. >>YOU ARE WELCOME.
>>THANK YOU. >>ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU FOR THE OVERVIEW.
>>THANK YOU. >>NEXT WILL MOVE INTO THE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE. MISS
[7.06 Construction Update]
WINTER? >>GOOD AFTERNOON MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. DOCTOR CURRY. I WILL BE PRESENTING PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION REPORT. SO, FIRST OF ALL. SOME GOOD NEWS ON BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. AS I AM SURE THAT YOU HAVE HEARD. THE ESTER THREE FUNDING HAS
[01:20:07]
BEEN APPROVED. SO, WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THAT PROJECT. SO, WE ARE VERY SADDENED ABOUT THAT. EVERYTHING IS READY TO GO. PERMITS ARE APPROVED AND WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF SCHEDULING OUR PRECONSTRUCTION KICKOFF MEETING. THE CONSERVATION OF THE COUNTY, WHICH BASICALLY KICKS OFF THE PROCESS FOR WHEN WE CAN START WITH INSTRUCTION.OAK CONTRACTING IN THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGER IS THE PROCESS OF GATHERING SUBMITTALS TOGETHER FROM THE TRADE CONTRACTOR. SO, THINGS ARE MOVING FORWARD. AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE SELECTED A DATE FOR THE GROUNDBREAKING. BECAUSE OF COURSE NEED TO SQUEEZE THAT IN. SO, FOR YOUR INFORMATION, INVITATIONS WILL BE COMING OUT.
IT WILL ACTUALLY OCCUR ON NOVEMBER 11. WHICH IS A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY I BELIEVE. I BELIEVE IT'S PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES. SO, IT WILL OCCUR PRIOR TO THE BOARD MEETING. WE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A BOARD MEETING THAT DAY. SO, WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN ATTEND BOTH EVENTS. SO, MOVING ON THE BEACH IN THE NEXT PROJECT TO REPORT ON IS SCHOOL SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM. ROUND THREE OF FUNDING FOR $200,000 BY THE STATE. AT THIS POINT, WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE PRICING. THE EXACT PRICING FOR ALL THE WORK THAT WILL OCCUR. BECAUSE OF COURSE WHEN WE DID THE APPLICATION THAT'S BASED ON ESTIMATES, SO, WE NEED TO GET PROPOSALS. WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THAT WORK. AND THAT WILL CONSIST OF ADDITIONAL VIDEO SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AND ALSO CHANGE OUT OF ELECTRONIC ACCESS TO BE SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE MOVED ON TO PROVE THAT WILL OCCUR WITH COUPLES. SO, AT THIS POINT, I CAN GO AHEAD AND TAKE SOME QUESTIONS BEFORE I MOVE ON TO ANY OTHERS. AS
YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT EITHE OF THESE OBJECTS? ! C. >>I THOUGHT WE FINISHED WITH THE CAMERA AND THE OUTFITTING OF THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA. WHAT TYPE ASSESS WIKI PRICE FOR
THE ADDITIONAL SURVEILLANCE? >>WAS INTERESTING IS THAT WHEN WE INSTALLED THE INITIAL
CAMERAS EVERYWHERE FEEL. >>TO BUILDING MINISTERS. THAT HAVE BEEN TALLIED AND KEPT IN A LIST. HER SCHOOL. AND SO, THAT CAMERAS THAT WE INSTALLED WERE LIMITED TO YOU KNOW, HALLWAYS AND STAIRWAYS AND ADDITIONAL SPACES. LIMITED SITE CAMERAS. IN TERMS OF THE EXTERIOR. WE ALWAYS KNEW THAT THERE WERE OTHER BLIND SPOTS OR OTHER LOCATIONS THAT WE NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO CAPTURE. SO, THIS IS ESSENTIALLY TRYING TO FILL IN THOSE GAPS. SO, WE KNEW REALLY FROM THE BEGINNING WERE PROBABLY GOING TO BE OTHER LOCATIONS THAT WE WOULD NOT HAVE CAPTURED AND SO, THE FEEDBACK, STAFF, WE ARE TRYING TO DO RIGHT NOW. HIS KEEP THAT
THIS IS MAINLY IN HIGH SCHOOL? >>SO, THIS IS MOSTLY AT THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.
THAT IS CORRECT. THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THEY'RE NOT AS MANY NEEDS AND POTENTIAL
BLIND SPOTS. I CAN CERTAINLY GET YOU THE LIST. BUT. >>I WILL GO TO MOVE ON TO OTHER PROJECTS. ATTACKS IN HIGH SCHOOL WE DID A PARTIAL INTERCOM PLACEMENT PROJECT.
THAT WAS THROUGH THE AGING SCHOOLS GRANT MONEY. THAT IS COMPLETE AT THIS POINT.
ADDITIONALLY, OTHER PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN ONGOING HAVE BEEN AT THE MOUNT HARMONY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. PARTIALLY THE HVAC REPLACEMENT. THAT IS BEEN TREATED AS WELL. SO, MOVING ON TO THE NEXT HVAC PROJECT, SEVEN MIDDLE SCHOOL, THIS IS A SIGNIFICANTLY BIGGER PROJECT. THAT IS BEING DONE IN TWO PHASES. THE FIRST PHASE WAS THIS TEST IS YOUR ÃÃSO, THAT'S COOL IS REALLY GETTING UPDATED FOR EQUIPMENT AND BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEM CONTROLS AS WELL. BECAUSE THE SCOPE IS SO LARGE, WE HAD TO DIVIDE THAT UP INTO TWO SUMMERS. THE FIRST PHASE WAS COMPLETED THIS SUMMER. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO BE CHANGING AT
[01:25:06]
THE CHILLER THAT WILL OCCUR ONCE THE SYSTEM IS OVER. SO, THE CHILLER WILL BE REPLACED AND THE NEXT SUMMER, WE WILL MOVE ON TO CHANGING OUT THE HVAC EQUIPMENT AND THE REST OF THE BOOK. THAT IS PROCEEDING FORWARD, BECAUSE OF THE DELAYS IN SHIPPING OF EQUIPMENT, WERE ABLE TO JUST GET DONE BY THE SKIN APERITIF. THIS PAST SUMMER. HOWEVER, ALL THE HVAC EQUIPMENT WAS PROCURED AND IS IN HAND FOR NEXT SUMMER. SO, WE SHOULD NOT BE FACING ANY OF THIS CHALLENGES COME NEXT SUMMER. THE NEXT PROJECT THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT IS THE NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTHERN MIDDLE SCHOOL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT.THE PLANT IS COMPLETE AT THIS POINT. OPERATIONAL. SO, THAT IS VERY GOOD NEWS. BY BUILDING FINISHED UP RIGHT NOW. IF UTILIZED BY THE COUNTY STAFF, WHO ACTUALLY PROVIDED US AND ACTUALLY MANAGE THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLAN FOR US. SO, IN TERMS OF ETC., THEY NEEDED A LAB BUILDING. SO, THERE ARE COUPLE OF FINISHED ITEMS THAT WE ARE WAITING ON BECAUSE OF COVID. THAT IS AT THIS POINT, STILL ONGOING. BUT, ESSENTIALLY THE PLANT ITSELF IS OPERATIONAL AND WORKING. ON TO THE NEXT PAGE. WE ARE ALSO AT NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL DOING THE PARTIAL ROOF REPLACEMENT. SELECT REPAIRS. THAT WORK IS PROCEEDING WELL. THE ROOF AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN THE ROOF IS ONGOING. WE EXPECTED TO BE REPLACED BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK. NEXT WEEK THERE WILL BE SOME TOUCHUP PAINTING PATCHING AND WITHIN THE AUDITORIUM.
BECAUSE OF THE LEAKS THAT HAVE BEEN OCCURRING WITHIN THAT AREA. WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE QUITE A FEW OF THE REPAIRS AND I BELIEVE WE'VE TAKEN CARE OF THAT PROBLEM AT THAT POINT. SO , THAT SPACE SHOULD BE READY. ALSO IN TIME FOR THE DEDICATION , WHICH AS YOU KNOW, IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 24. O, WE SHOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE THERE AS WELL. THEN ON SOME OTHER HVAC PROJECTS, HUNTING, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT IS FOR A PARTIAL HVAC REPLACEMENT. WE PLAN TO BID THIS OUT IN WINTER OF 21 AND 22. CALIBER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THIS WILL BE ANOTHER HVAC, BUT ALSO A PARTIAL ROOF BASEMENT. THAT PARTICULAR PROJECT AS WELL WOULD BE BID OUT AND 21 AND 22 WINTER TIMEFRAME. WHAT WE DON'T KNOW IS WHERE THE PRICES ARE GOING TO END UP. SO, WHAT WE KEEP HEARING FROM OUR CONSULTANTS IS THAT WE DON'T EXPECT TO SEE ANY KIND OF A FLATTENING OF PRICES REALLY WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS. SO, WE WILL HAVE TO SEE HOW THAT GOES. SO WE WILL GO AHEAD AND BID THAT OUT. YOU KNOW, THINGS MIGHT CHANGE IN THE COURSE OF A COUPLE OF MONTHS. SO, IT'S TOUGH TO KNOW. HE NEXT PROJECT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT ON IS HUNTINGTON ELEMENTARY. PARKING LOT TREATMENT. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY RECONFIGURING THE BUS PARENT DROP-OFF LOOP. AND ADDRESSING THE ADA CONCERNS. THE EVA SPOTS THAT ARE AT THAT SCHOOL.
THIS POINT AS WELL. MOVING ON TO MORE PLANNING. NORTHERN MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE PROCESS.
IT IS STARTING AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. WE HAVE CEDED A COMMITTEE FOR THE SPECS. SO, WE WILL BE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE PROCESS. VERY SOON AND EXPECT TO CONCLUDED WITH THE PROCESS IN MARCH. 22. WE WILL THEN EMBARK ON THE FEASIBILITY ASPECT ON THAT PARTICULAR BUILDING. LASTLY, WE ARE ALSO IN THE PROCESS RIGHT NOW OF INTERVIEWING ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING FIRMS FOR OUR NEXT SET OF ON-CALL CONTRACTS. WE TYPICALLY RETAIN THE SERVICES OF TEXTUAL AND ENGINEERING FIRMS FOR A THREE-YEAR PERIOD. AND UTILIZED IN DESIGN SERVICES. SO, THE PROCESS IN TERMS OF INTERVIEWS WILL OCCUR NEXT WEEK. WE EXPECT TO BRING
[01:30:09]
RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD AND AT THE NOVEMBER MEETING ASSOCIATED WITH THAT. AND IWILL TAKE ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE AT THIS TIME. >>GO AHEAD. I MEANT TO ASK REGARDING THE SURVEILLANCE AND ADDITIONAL SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS. ANTICIPATING $200,000
GRANT TO GRANT THE SCOPE OF WORK. >>YES, WE DO. WE DO HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL MONEY IN A SAFETY SECURITY ACCOUNT CAPITOL OUTLAY. BECAUSE IN ACTUALITY THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF WORK WE WERE ANTICIPATING WE HAD ALLOCATED MONEY FOR FOR THE JUST THE ACCESS CONTROL CONVERSION THAT WE WERE GOING TO UTILIZE THE CAPITOL OUTLAY SAFETY SECURITY ACCOUNT FOR. WHEN WE PUT IN THE SCHOOL SECURITY GRANT APPLICATION, WE ACTUALLY WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE GRANT MONEY TO DO THE CHANGEUP FOR SOME OF THAT ACCESS CONTROL CONVERSION. SO, THAT REALLY WAS ABLE TO SUPPLANT SOME OF THAT MONEY THAT WE HAVE. WHEN THE TWO ACCOUNTS, WE BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE THE LAST SECTION OF THE ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERING FIRMS, YOU ARE JUST COMPILING A LIST OF PREVENTED COMPANIES RIGHT? THERE IS NO REAL WAY TO USE THE WORD RETAIN. TO ME, THAT IMPLIES FINANCIAL COMMITMENT. ON THAT COURT. THAT'S JUST A LIST, RIGHT THAT YOU ALREADY
PREVENTED? >>CORRECT. WHAT WE DO IS ESSENTIALLY BECAUSE OF ÃÃIT IS PREVENTED ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS. ESSENTIALLY WHAT HAPPENS IS WE ADVERTISE FOR A THREE-YEAR PERIOD. ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING FIRMS. WE HAVE CERTAIN QUALIFICATIONS THAT WE REQUEST THAT THEY PROVIDE INFORMATION TO US ON. SUCH AS WHAT TYPES OF MARYLAND PUBLIC K-12 PROJECTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED? THERE CHANGE ORDER RATE IN ERRORS IN ADMISSIONS. SIZE AND SCOPE OF THE PROJECT. BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE THAT THEY HAVE DONE THE TYPE OF PROJECTS THAT WE ARE ANTICIPATING WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE CIP. THE SHORT LIST FROM, BECAUSE WE RECEIVED AMONGST ALL OF THE DISCIPLINES, I BELIEVE THAT WE RECEIVED OVER 70 SUBMISSIONS. AND WE'VE SHORTLISTED TO 19. THOSE FIRMS. WE HAVE A SELECTION COMMITTEE THAT CONSISTS OF MR. BARACLUDE. MYSELF AND GREG GOT. AND THEN UPON THE CONCLUSION INTERVIEWS, BASED ON THEIR PRESENTATION AND RESPONSES TO THE QUESTIONS, WE WILL THEN MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS. THE LIST. ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS PICK FROM TO ASKED TO GIVE A PROPOSAL FOR OUR FUTURE PROJECTS ON THE CIP FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS. SO, FOR EXAMPLE, WHITMAN ASSOCIATES, WHO'S DONE THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT DESIGN, THEY WERE PART OF OUR ON-CALL OF SULTANS FROM THE LAST THREE YEARS. THAT WE HAD COME BEFORE THE BOARD TO APPROVE. SIMILARLY JAMES POSEY ASSOCIATIONS WITH IN THAT POOL. BECAUSE THAT CURRENT POOL HAS NOW EXPIRED WE HAVE TO GO AHEAD AND RETAIN SERVICES FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS. IT WAS NOT A FINANCIAL COMMITMENT. THEY HAD TO PROVIDE US WITH PROPOSALS. FOR EACH SCOPE OF WORK. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.

COMMENTS ON THE BOARD. I WILL BEGIN WITH OUR STUDENT MEMBER OF THE BOARD, MR. KELLY.
>>ALL RIGHT, SO, I ONLY HAVE ONE THING AND IT'S CONFIRMING SOMETHING I SAID EARLIER. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TAKES PLACE AT 10 O'CLOCK THIS THURSDAY. CALVERT HIGH SCHOOL. IF ANY OF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COMING BY. I KNOW I WILL BE A PART OF THE PANEL ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS. AND THERE'S CAN BE A LOT OF SPEECHES AND WORKSHOPS. I THINK IT WOULD BE A REALLY GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU GUYS TO COME AND SEE WHAT WE DO OVER THERE. AN EGG IS ALREADY KIND OF KNOW, BUT IT'LL BE A GOOD TIME. IT'S THE FIRST IN PERSON GENERAL SOME THAT WE HAD IN WELL OVER A YEAR. AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. IF YOU GUYS CANNOT ATTEND, COME BY. IT'S
ALL FOR ME, THANK YOU. >>THANK YOU MR. KELLY. MR. WHITE?

>>GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE. FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT IT IS DEFINITELY A PLEASURE TO MC IN THE CALVERT COUNTY SCHOOL FOUNDATION EVENT. THERE WERE SEVERAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THERE. STRANGERS AND IT WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE A PART OF IT AND SEE HOW MUCH MONEY AND WHERE THE MONEY GOES TO HELP SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS. THIS PAST SUNDAY, WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF PRESENTING SIX PROCLAMATIONS TO SIX MEMBERS OF THE BOY SCOUTS WHO ATTAIN THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT. FROM TROOP 430. JUST TO HEAR WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE DOING AND NOT DURING THE PANDEMIC AND WITH ELSE, THESE YOUNG MEN WERE STILL EXCELLING CALVERT COUNTRY AND SEVERAL OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE COMMUNITY. LASTLY, I WAS ABLE TO GO TO A CONFERENCE WHERE THERE WERE OTHER EDUCATORS AND OTHER BOARD MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MARYLAND. SO, IT WAS ALWAYS GREAT TO GO AND LEARN WITH SOME OF YOUR COLLEAGUES. EARLIER THIS WEEK, I WAS ÃÃBLESS YOU. I WAS OUT THERE, I HAVE A DAUGHTER IN FIFTH GRADE AND SO, SHE RIDES THE BUS. WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, GEOMETRY SCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL, THE SAME BUS DRIVER. SHE THEN DROVE MY SON TO SCHOOL AND NOW I ALSO DROVE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL.
ULTIMATELY A FAMILY. I AM ON THE BOARD. I'M THE ELECTED OFFICIAL, BUT ALSO APPARENT.
THOSE THAT ARE UPSET BECAUSE I WAS OUT THERE, I AM A PARENT. TO SHOW SUPPORT.
'VE ALSO ATTENDED A FEW EVENTS INCLUDING SOME SPORTING EVENTS LOCALLY IN THE COUNTY.
THE PRINCIPAL STAFF AND THEY'RE DOING A PHENOMENAL JOB KEEPING EVERYBODY SAFE. AND LIKE KELLY SAID, JUST TO EXCITEMENT Ã THAT'S THE FEELING WHEN YOU WENT TO THE PARKING LOT IS JUST PACKED. LAST, BUT, I HAVE ÃÃ A LOT OF WHAT WE ARE DOING YOU KNOW, A LOT OF THE PROBLEMS AND ISSUES THAT WE ARE HAVING IS CULTURE. WE HAVE A CULTURE NOW THAT JUST IS FRACTURED. IT COMES FROM COMMUNICATION AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS. AND I LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER AND WORKING HARD AND TRYING TO DO WHAT'S BEST. ONE THING THAT I LEARNED FROM THE CONFERENCE IS OUR LIVES ARE THE STUDENTS. THE STUDENTS FIRST.
LOT OF THE DECISIONS WE ARE DOING IS FOR THE STUDENTS. WE VALUE TEACHERS, PARENTS, AND EVERYBODY ELSE. BUT IT'S FOR THE STUDENTS FIRST. THAT'S OUR JOB. THANK YOU.
>>THANK YOU MR. WHITE. >>THANK YOU. THE EAGLE SCOUTS THERE. THAT USUALLY GO THROUGH ALL OF THEM, BUT AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME, I ALSO HAD TO IN THE CONCERT FOR THE HISTORIC SOCIETY. SO, STOP BY AND CONGRATULATE THEM. WHENEVER. IT'S FUNNY. I SPOKE A LOT OF THE BUS DRIVERS. THAT WORKED OUT HERE. A NEW A LOT OF THEM FOR A LOT OF YEARS.
PARTICULARLY ONE WHO WAS SONS OF 12 YEARS. SO, YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN. THINGS WILL BE LOOKED INTO. WE WILL GO FROM THERE. NOW, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE TO ÃÃI'M GONNA RENEW MY MOTION THAT WE ALLOW SPEAKERS TO ATTEND A NUMBER. BUT AS OPEN. AND I'M GOING TO MAKE
THAT MOTION NOW. >>SECOND. WE HAVE A MOTION AND THE SECOND ON THE FLOOR. ANY
DISCUSSION? DURING NONE. THOSE IN FAVOR? >>I.
>>I. >>MOTION FAILS. 2Ö. >>THANK YOU. MS. POLANSKY?
>>I. >>FIRST OF ALL, I BELIEVE THAT SHOULD OPEN IT UP .? IT'S PAINFUL. PEOPLE CRITICIZE US SO MUCH, BUT, PEOPLE REALLY DIDN'T AND LISTENED TO ALL THE BOARD MEETINGS AND YOU'RE MAKING SOMEBODY'S DECISIONS AND RESOLUTIONS, THE MORE WE ALL KNOW ABOUT EACH OTHER, THE BETTER. THAT'S WHY VOTED YES. THE FASTEST I ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS. AND OTHERS WHO ARE THE GRANTEES OF THE RECEIVING
[01:40:06]
PATIENTS COVERED COUNTY FOUNDATION GRANTS. THAT IS SO EXCITING AND I THINK WE ARE REALLY ENGINEERING INNOVATION IN OUR SYSTEM. IT'S A WONDERFUL PROGRAM. I WAS AT THE MARCHING BAND SHOWCASE FIRST ANNUAL, I GUESS IT WOULD BE FROM ANNUAL ÃÃTHE MARCHING BAND SHOWCASE. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN AND THE KIDS DID A WONDERFUL JOB DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS EVERYBODY THE ENTIRE TIME. BUT, THERE'S EXCELLENT. FEEL THE ENERGY. I HOPE TO MAKE THE TASK GENERAL ASSEMBLY AS I WILL NOT BE TOO BOTHERSOME, BUT I DO LIKE TO LISTEN TO WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE SAYING. SO, IT MIGHT BE EAVESDROPPING QUITE A BIT. ANDI THINK THAT'S IT. >>CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR. AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW IF I'VE SAID IT PUBLICLY, BUT ASHAMED THAT WE ARE STILL IN THIS COVID AND SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES MIGHT BE CURTAILED. BUT I HOPE THEY
HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME IN IT. >>THANK YOU MRS. BELINSKY.
[INDISCERNIBLE] >>TWO THINGS. THANK YOU DOCTOR CURRY GETTING WITH THE BUS DRIVERS AND THE TEST IS LOOKING FORWARD TO A FAVORABLE AND AMICABLE SOLUTION TO THE CONCERNS THAT WE ARE HEARING IN THE COMMUNITY. SO, I APPRECIATE THAT. AND I LIKE TO REITERATE THE WHOLE CONFERENCE, BUT TO PUT THAT ON THE AGENDA TO DISCUSS THE EDUCATION WORK CONFERENCE THAT THE MAJORITY WAS ATTEMPTED. WEEKEND AS INVESTORS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT.
NETWORKING AND MORE ABOUT HOW TO BE A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER. AND I APPRECIATE BOARD MEMBERS.
THAT WEEK AS WELL. THAT'S ALL I HAVE. >>THANK YOU MRS. PLEASANTS.
ALSO LIKE TO REITERATE ÃÃI DO APPRECIATE YOU DOCTOR CURRY AND MR. NAVARRO FOR GOING ON TALKING TO THE BUS DRIVERS. AND TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THEIR CONCERNS ARE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO FAVORABLE AND PROACTIVE AND AMICABLE MISSION TO THEIR NEEDS. THEN UPDATE TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION HOW WE ARE PROGRESSING AND SDE ARE PARTNERS IN EDUCATION AND FOR MAKING EQUITY AND EXCELLECE A PRIORITY IN K-12 EDUCATION. THOSE ARE MY COMMENTS PERTINENT. AND SEEING THE FOR THE BUSINESS ON OUR AGENDA, WE ARE ADJOURNED. THANK YOU.
